Yeah - I am finally getting back into a schedule of sorts!

Old Book by Anna Langova

I underestimated my desire to nap and read when my daughter got out of school.  Right now I am restarting a few of my favorite fantasy series:

My brain has been able to stick with the Wheel of Time series, so that is what I am going with right now.  The other two both have TV series; A Song of Ice and Fire is the Game of Thrones series on HBO, and is done very well. While there are some differences to the books, I haven't seen yet where the differences are so great that the story lines are completely different.  The Sword of Truth television series, The Legend of the Seeker deviated wildly from the books; and while I think this could have been an amazing series - they shot themselves in the foot when they did that.  Not that a series can't make it by deviating from the books, True Blood has done well with that, the Seeker series took too much away from the books - and we epic fantasy fans can be pretty unforgiving about that kind of stuff.

What was I talking about again?

Oh!  That I am a slacker!  I am working on getting my lazy bum up more often (my husband's audible sighs when he sees the stack of dirty dishes help too) and get back on a regular schedule.  I think I have just taken a bit of a vacation and am now recharged and ready to get back on the ball!!

Today I am sitting down to type away and schedule posts, like I should have done yesterday.  In any case .. I am headed back to my once a day posts.  While I don't have enough time to get caught up on what I missed, I do intend on haunting my bloggy pals blogs too!!  You bettah watch out!

  1. I don't read a ton of fantasy, but I love Game of Thrones. I've been debating about starting the books; maybe I'll try one of the other two series you mentioned. But then I read your latest post on fall TV - I don't have time for all of this!!

    1. LOL - I know what you mean, it takes me forever to get through a good book these days - I usually just read a chapter each night before I go to bed.

The easiest read of the three is Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind, it also has an excellent romantic undercurrent to the series that I like.

George R.R. Martin can be a tough read. He is an excellent writer, but he jumps back and forth between characters so it can get confusing; however, if you have followed the series on HBO then you will most likely have an easier time of it. Just so you know, they are still on the first book of his series in the show, that is how detailed the book is. While there is sex in the books, there is a whole love more in the show (that is HBO for ya!)

Robert Jordan can get long winded, he has also passed away before the series has ended; however, Brandon Sanderson has done a good job of penning his ideas to complete the series. It is also an intimidating series .. I think it will be 16 books when it is done. One thing though, this series has some of the best female characters ever.

  2. My three favourite book series EVER!! I haven't yet read the last Wheel of Time book... and I'm tempted to re-read the series before I do.

I refuse to watch Game of Thrones until I finish the last book, even though there are boxed sets on DVD taunting me from the family room.

And Richard & Kahlan... what a love story :)

    1. Yay!! I know I liked you Jenn! :-D

and HBO did well with the series - of course they threw in more sex, but then it IS HBO. :-)

  3. I struggle with a lack of schedules too (and a sink full of dirty dishes). :) This has been my first week back on a schedule of sorts, and I feel so productive! It probably won't last too long, but it works for now.
